On October 19, 2010 I moved from the US to The Netherlands. This is a love story many years in the making.

Willekeurige Afbeeldingen

This weekend was very busy – I get the impression there won’t be much time to sit around in my future – and we got home late on both nights. Today was very busy with work; I put in about 10 hours, so I just don’t have it in me to write an involved post. I still owe the second half of The Decadent Adventure, I know. I will do it soon. For now, have some random images.

Bathroom sink at De Librije. My perfume bottle got my attention and was the reason for the photo, but what really amuses me is that somehow my upside down image is in the make-up mirror that is reflected in the top right.

On our way out to somewhere – I have no idea where, maybe dinner? I snapped this just outside the house. I love how it turned out.

Sort of just around the corner is a nice old cemetery, which will be the subject of a future blog post – they dig up their dead here! It’s very pretty, and also shows the evolving styles in funerals. Fascinating.

Plastic Calla lilies on a grave.

Went for a walk out by Hoornse Meer – the sky was very dramatic and the wind was strong. The final image cracks me up – so very, very Dutch: a happy beach scene, with people swimming, water skiing, volleyball, music…all firmly ignoring the roiling, looming gray skies.

You gotta admire that kind of spirit.

re: the last photo, I think its just something that those of us who live in wet climes have to make do with. As the saying goes, ignorance is bliss 🙂
